The meeting of the Burtrum City Council was called to order at 7 p.m.by Mayor Don Axel on Monday, August 7, 2000. All members answered roll call. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved on a motion by Jenny Ahrendt ad second by Deb VanHavermaet. Motion carried. Finance report was read and approved on a motion by Alvin Thieschafer and second by Jake Payne. Motion carried. The following bills were presented:


The Burtrum City Council meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Burtrum Village Hall. All are welcome to attend. September meeting will be held on September 5th due to the Labor Day holiday.
The regular meeting of the Grey Eagle City Council was called to order by Mayor Reecy at 7:00 p.m. on the 11th day of July 2000 in the Council Chambers with all Council Members present. Also present were Clerk, Harry Grammond and Maintenance Supervisor, Gene Lahr.

The Mayor briefed the Council on several items of interest to them.

A motion was made by Linda Arnzen to approve the minutes of the June 13, 2000 and the Special Meeting of June 20, 2000 with one correction to the June 13, 2000 meeting. That change was to replace the words "the new owner" to CADCO of Garland, Texas." A second was made by Thom Muellner and upon vote, motion carried.

A maintenance report was given by Gene Lahr. Gene reported on the successful water repair on Highway 28. He mentioned that there had been a request to install water at the sand volleyball courts. After discussion, the Council is receptive to installing water if they get a written request from the Jaycees or the Lions saying they will pay for it and if the request includes a drinking fountain. There was an inquiry on the procedure to repair a section of sidewalk on Main Street. It is the policy of the City that the sidewalks are the responsibility of the business owner.

Gene reported on the repairs that were done to the lawn mower.

A motion was made by Linda Arnzen to approve a liquor license for the GEM Fest for the Grey Eagle/Burtrum Lions. A second was made by Joe Arnzen and upon vote, motion carried.

A motion was made by Carl Butler to approve a liquor license for the Firemen's Dance. A second was made by Thom Muellner and upon vote, with Joe Arnzen abstaining, motion carried.

A motion was made by Thom Muellner to block a portion of Woodman Street on Sunday, July 23, 2000 for use by the Jaycee organization for a mini carnival. The time would be from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.. A second was made by Linda Arnzen and upon vote, motion carried.

A motion was made by Carl Butler to block Woodman Street in front of the Fire Hall on August 12th & 13th for the Firemen's Dance. A second was made by Thom Muellner and upon vote, motion carried.

It was consensus of the City Council that they would pay for the fireworks and would be reimbursed by the Grey Eagle/Burtrum Lions.

The Council is in the process of studying the Minnesota Basic Code in an effort to update City Ordinances. It was decided to study the matter for another 60 days.

Discussion was held on what to do with a damaged gate pillar at Lakeview Cemetery. It was decided to have the City Maintenance Crew remove it.

Salaries were discussed for 2001 so that the budget process could begin. The following salaries were decided upon and all are in effect January 1, 2001.

A motion was made by Linda Arnzen to approve salary increases for the Maintenance Supervisor from $25,100 to $26,000 per year and part-time seasonal Maintenance from $5.50 to $6.00 per hour now and $6.25 per hour on January 1, 2001. A second was made by Carl Butler and upon vote, motion carried.

A motion was made by Joe Arnzen to approve a salary increase for the Assistant Clerk from $7.00 to $7.25 per hour. The Clerk's salary to remian at $12 per hour. A second was made by Thom Muellner and upon vote, motion carried.

A motion was made by Linda Arnzen to approve a salary increase for the Library Custodian from $6.00 to $6.25 per hour. A second was made by Mayor Gordon Reecy and upon vote, motion carried.

Mayor Reecy checked with the City employees to see when they were taking vacations so that all bases are covered.

A discussion was held on which Council positions are up for election this year. The positions open will be Mayor and two Council seats. Filing for these positions begins on August 29, 2000 and ends on September 12, 2000 at 5:00 p.m. Filing may be done at the Grey Eagle City Office.

The Clerk was instructed to proceed with the regular policy for water shut-off on delinquent utility bills

A motion was made by Linda Arnzen to pay the regular bills as listed. A second was made by Carl Butler and upon vote, motion carried.

Mayor Reecy adjourned the meeting at 9:54 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Grey Eagle City Council is scheduled for August 8, 2000.

Motion to pay these bills was made by Alvin Thieschafer and second by Jenny Ahrendt. Motion carried.
A general discussion on ordinance violations and traffic was held. Price quotes on new windows for the hall will be checked into. Being no further business a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jenny Ahrendt and second by Jake Payne. Motion carried.
The September meeting will be held on September 5th due to the Labor Day holiday.
